Hojo hails from Western Colorado. He has worked his entire career in software and network systems engineering. This led to a serendipitous venture into adventure sports. In 2013 he created a software product, Wavemonkey, that is used for whitewater competitions. This has taken him all over the world to international competitions and races. It was through this connection that introduced him to the world of video production. Hojo has worked quite closely with broadcast and media teams to coordinate the sports commentating at three international kayaking competitions. And today, he is working to create this new travel series that focuses on travel through the lens makers all across the globe. “One of the most fascinating experiences I've ever had was while working at Disney World. I was able to watch the production of commercials filmed in the Magic Kingdom. The size and scale of the production was on par with any feature length film. The experience was foundational."
Mandy hails from Eastern Wyoming. She is the principle photographer for Travel Craft. Mandy got her start in still photography as a hobby and eventually added video. For years she has taken video of kayakers for their own personal video collections. A trained exercise physiologist, she is an all around athlete and well adapted to sports photography. Travel Craft presents a new challenge for Mandy in capturing the narrative of people and their skills of creation, which is a markedly different change of pace from chasing kayakers down the river! “It all sort of started when Hojo's kayaking friends would hand me a camera and ask me to tape their runs. This grew into official media work for freestyle worlds and world cup. My first first broadcast media inclusion was for an Al Jazeera Canada interest piece for the 2015 ICF Freestyle World Championships.”
Yoshiko san is a Gifu, a Japanese prefecture, native. She is instrumental in her roll as Production Assistant (fixer). Yoshiko san met the members of Travel Craft well before the channel started on the side of the river in Ottawa, Canada in 2015. We met again in San Juan, Argentina in 2017, both times at the Freestyle World Championships where the members of Travel Craft were representing Wavemonkey on the judging platform. We have been visiting each other in the US and Japan and have built a great working relationship. Yoshiko san is always enjoyable to work with whether it be with a camera, on skis, or kayaking!
